Hello All-
So I finally received my IK and I am roaring to go except yarn...
Last time we were in the city I found some moonlight mohair from lion brand and as I was running it through my fingers I thought..."that is itchy!" So I am looking into cotton, I think it would be nice for this scarf, light, stretchy not itchy.
Keep ya posted...

Knit 1 below and Purl 1 below
I already posted this link in a comment, but since many of us seem to still have problems with these stitches, I think it was missed.
This site has videos, yes, VIDEOS!, of both knit stitch in row below (k-b) and purl stitch in the row below (p-b), and believe me, once you watch the video, it's a piece of cake!

Okay, my computer is on the fritz this week, so I'm updating this from an internet coffeeshop while my kids are managing to amuse themselves (... which means I'll type as long as they last!).
I've learned a couple of things on this scarf:
1) I really have a knack for choosing patterns that seem really easy and simple, which is why I choose them, and then they turn out to be quite a bit more complex than first thought. Refer to the Phoebe-along that I did for more info there.
2) I was intimidated by the provisional cast-on, as I've always avoided it in the past. What I learned here is that it isn't that hard! You crochet the chain for however many chains they say -- like 37 or so? And then, using your main yarn, you pick up sts through those loops. I didn't (seem to) have a problem with this, although I guess the true test comes at the end when you unravel the waste yarn. I didn't pay too close of attention to where I picked them up .... you just want your sts that you pick up to be loose enough to then fit around the circumference of your needle, which in my case was 24", and it was a tight fit.
À la Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, for lack of photos (again, I'm at the internet coffeeshop), let me leave you with these meager descriptions. And maybe I'll actually get the photos dropped in here later this week. Since we're pretending, let's imagine that I took these photos in the Caribbean on the beach while drinking margaritas.
[insert image of loose chain here]
[insert image of picked up sts stretched across 24" size 17 addis here]
I think that if I were to buy that too-expensive addi-turbo needle again, I'd go for a 16", simply because I think it'd make this project a little easier. I went for the 24" because I'm hoping to make some gigundo gauge sweaters with this.
3) The first row of K2P2 wasn't too hard.
4) The next set-up row didn't quite make sense to me but I persevered. It seemed like I was doing the opposite of the foundation row, which I think was to make the yarn get caught it intself and keep from unraveling when the crochet chain is taken out. Is that right, or completely crazy?
(And just so that you know right now, my son just had to be shown the "quiet time corner" here at said coffeeshop in case he bugs his sister again ... )
5) I had an issue with the fisherman's rib pattern. After ripping out the fourth time (and isn't the definition of insanity people who do the same thing over and over and expect different results?), I finally decided to "get to know the fisherman's rib stitch" better. So, we made a date, and I made a little flat swatch based on the about.com directions to the stitch. No problems there! As I understand it, Fisherman's Rib is one of those stitches that is the same on every row, and what it causes is for each stitch to be "raised up" when you "pick up and k one stitch from below". When done in flat knitting, you pick up the K st on each side, which is always a "pick up a K st", and every column gets a stitch picked up. In round knitting, you have to get the other column by doing the "pick up a p st" every other round.
My issue isn't with the pick up a k st, it's with the pick up a p st. When I did it, I was trying to catch the very top of the st and p it... which first left me with extra stitches (the yarn carried forward became an extra stitch). Then when I tried to do the "pick up and p the stitch" without carrying the yarn forward, I ended up knitting the stitch ... because, duh, you can't purl the stitch with the yarn in the back. I dreamed about this last night (yes, that's how much this darn p st was bothering me), and I realized that I think that I need to carry the yarn to the front, then p the stitch while bringing the right hand needle from behind the TWO stitches ... the right hand side of the st on the needle, and the right hand side of the stitch on the row below.
Right now, I'm off to try this again. If anyone has tips about how to p the st from the row below, it'd be much appreciated. (Not like I'll know, because I'm left in a cyberless state.)
I did have some issues with the La Boheme, as the double strand was a little bit of a challenge to work with over these large needles. I just had a hard time understanding the stitch pattern. I've decided to try again using another heavy worsted weight yarn, Noro Kochoran, which you may be familiar with. (And I might as well share that I'm an absolute Noro junkie.) If all goes well, I'll be posting picts of a completed Triada soon! Then I'll be off onto the real Triada, the La Boheme one.
(And the kiddos deserve extra recognition for having made it this long.)

Hi everyone!! My name is Kirsten and I joined this KAL a couple of weeks ago. I also fell in love with the pattern in Interweave Knits and once I saw the colorways for the La Boheme I was a gonner! My LYS had a sale for their one year anniversary and that is when I got my yarn. I chose the Coral Reef colorway (I seem to have a fascination with the color coral - I am not sure I can pull it off but am sucked in by it ALL. THE. TIME!!!) I also recently picked up the needles to work the scarf and all I could find was a 29in. circular (granted I didn't go to my LYS, I went to JoAnn's instead - it was more convenient for me with my 2.5 year old.) I am REALLY hoping that these needles will work. Do you think they will? Anyway, here is a picture of my yarn:
I am hoping to cast on for this soon, and am really glad to have you all to knit along with!! Happy Friday!

Hi all!
I have a bit of bad news. today, my knitting teacher, who wanted to teach this, has told me that she'll not do the pattern. we worked on it for 6 hrs the other day, I got two rows done. They were wrong. Now that the photo was just posted of how it is correctly done, I believe, if I can get past the cast on, I'll be fine on my own! I don't want to "quit", so I have an idea of how to crochet the cast on stitches, I just need some feed back as to whether i'm doing it correctly or not. then I'll be good, I hope! Jenn, wanna help?

I'm relatively new here. I saw the pattern for Triada in the latest Interweave Knits and just had to make it. I think it's ever so cute. I have the yarn, but no needles as of yet. Jenifer offered to let me borrow her needles when she's done and I think I will just do that. But I just wanted to chime in and say hi and post a pic of the yarn I will be using, which is Fiesta Yarns La Boheme in the Taos colorway.

For those of you working on your Triada, how hard was the provisional cast-on and the Fisherman's rib pattern? I've never done either before, but looking forward to learning new processes.
Also, the author of the pattern is Jaya Srikrishnan and she's on a knitting list that I'm on and if you have questions about the pattern she agreed that she could be contacted. She's very helpful on the list that I am on, so I'm sure she'll be readily available for questions on her pattern. Her email is ermabom@gmail.com.
I'll be posting more later, but that's all for now. Thanks.
Oh and this is Wanda! (Doh!)

As i posted last, my knitting teacher is using this pattern for her class. well, we started today, finally.
Big problems for me though.
I'm not sure I'm getting it. We both started by the crchet on, then we got a couple of rows done together,
then I purled the wrong piece of yarn, franly, I knew I was wrong, but, stubborly I did it anyway. Poof, the whole thing had to be redone. I had to rip it. At least iI wasn't far into it, but I am having trouble understanding how it all happened. So here goes my confusion, when I knit under the stitch, the result will look as if it were a dropped stitch, correct? that is what it looked like to us. So are we doing it right?
She is also having trouble, so I don't feel so lost, or at least not that alone in my confusion anyway!
he he...Is anyone else having problems?
Feedback would be appreciated. I"ll try again in the am.

due to my inertia i'm only just now starting. though fate would have it by waiting, i ran into the woman who actually taught me to knit. i told her about the knitalong, and lo and behold she is teaching a class on knitting this scarf!!!!
sooo, i'll have great supervision. i also mentioned she should urge her students to check out the knitalong when they are home without her, in case they get stuck.
i thought it was pretty cool how this worked out!
happy knitting!

Hi everyone! My name is Astreia. I just joined today. I'm so excited. I bought the Interweave magazine yesterday and fell in love with this pattern. I went to my LYS today for the FIRST time and it was amazing!! I could spend TONS of money in there. I'm going to need a room just for yarn. I bought the La Boheme yarn (amazing stuff) in Abalone. I'll be knitting most of it on my plane ride to Italy. I've never been on a plane that long so I'm definitely going to need my Triada project to help me. I'm looking forward to doing this with you all.
